Notice of Water Restrictions

Conserve Water

PROCLAMATION OF WATER EMERGENCY
12 AUGUST 2022

Due to prolonged drought conditions and resulting use of the Village of Cold Spring’s reserve water supply, I hereby declare, under Village Code Chapter 130, Sections 18-20, a state of emergency for public water usage. All users of the Village of Cold Spring’s water supply will take prompt and reasonable precautions to conserve the shared water supply, as enumerated below.

This proclamation is made in the interest of public health, safety, and welfare of all those using the Village’s water supply. It is intended to conserve water for domestic, household and sanitary uses, as well as fire protection. This emergency order will be in effect immediately upon the issuance of this proclamation, and remain in effect until rescinded by the Mayor, with approval by the Village Board of Trustees.

CURRENT GUIDANCE FOR WATER USE DURING THE STATE OF EMERGENCY
  • Indoor use of water is permitted for domestic and sanitary purposes. Please use the minimal amount required for these purposes. Suggested actions: keep showers brief; turn off faucets while washing dishes and brushing teeth, etcetera; skip toilet flushes when reasonable.

  • Limit landscape watering to new or fragile plantings. If you must water, please do so early in the morning or later in the evening when water is more likely to be absorbed into soils before evaporating.

  • Do not wash cars or buildings.

  • Limit refills on pools and/or hot tubs. Do not use sprinklers or hoses for water play.

  • Business and industries may use minimum amount of water reasonably necessary to conduct operations.

FAILURE TO COMPLY/PENALTIES
Violations of this order will result in summonses. Upon conviction, violators will be subject to fines.
