Yard Waste Concerns - April 28, 2022

A number of Villagers have raised concerns that yard waste and garbage are being co-mingled in a single Royal truck. Our initial inquiry to Royal yielded this response:

"In regards to the collection of yard waste, when the route is completed, the truck returns to Royal's DEC licensed transfer station at which time the contents are emptied and then are sorted. . . here are some photos of the yard waste being separated at Royal's transfer station from our truck that serviced the village yesterday.  A total of 2.36 tons was recovered from this load. Doing the collection this way greatly reduces the truck traffic in the village, resulting in decreased wear and tear on the roads thus reducing our carbon foot print."

The Mayor has requested a site visit to see how this operation works. As needed, the Village will discuss alternatives with Royal and update the community as we learn more. Thank you for your patience as we work on this issue with Royal.
